CONCEPT
The task was tough one while designing this house because client had demanded clearly few things like: since the location was in Rajasthan so create a home that would marry form and function, tradition and modernity, eclecticism and élan. The result: a captivating mix of styles and materials.
To begin, the front elevation of the house has been constructed in such a way that you only see the ground and first floor, hiding the second floor from view. The facade is decidedly modern with straight-lined teak panelling, stainless steel beams, silver travertine Italian stone cladding and sloping roof with coves. As a contrast sides of the house has been painted in earthy colour (reminiscent of ancient havelis in jaipur). The hue is not the only old-world touch. A modern take on a traditional jaali-work is a waterjet stone panel that highlights terrace sitting area as well at second floor level.
Play of light and shadow can be seen all across the home through many such jaali work panels.
Equally alluring is the entrance to the house. Most driveways are neglected areas. Here, however a sleek wooden coloumns and beams provide shelter to the cars. Flooring has been given quite importance as copper colour in random brick pattern like what normally can be seen Europe towns streets. That was reference given to us by client.
What’s great about the home is its reinterpretation of modernity. When i had began working on this project i was clear in my mind that it has to be different in styling and overall looks of the house.
